Eugenie is a rice farmer in Rwanda and the mother of five children. Her dream was to secure a better future for her children by enrolling them into a good school that would be accessible by foot near their home, but her rice farm could only provide her with crops to feed them basic meals. Her income was raised by obtaining a loan from Opportunity International, and her dreams slowly became a reality.
Eugenie invested in her farm by hiring neighbours to help her grow crops. As a result, her yields significantly increased. As advised in the Opportunity training she received, she acquired crop insurance, saved money and deposited her savings in order to use them for her children’s nutrition and educational development.
